A1RL0CK is a survival text adventure about a child and some voices. Also, a lot of proteins. If you are looking for the kind of game that goes: "This is what happened and this is what you must do", A1RL0CK is probably not for you as it has an in media res approach and may result obscure to many players until quite far in the playthrough. It's a story meant to unfold step by step and it is intended to work like this. Rel.3.2 is the post-PunyJam#3 polished version with an added scoring system and a lot of vanilla systems in which to play (included C64, Spectrum +3, AtariST, Amiga, Apple II, BBC Micro) , and we recommend you play this one. Check ReadMe.txt for a full disclosure on what changed in the game.

A1RL0CK placed 2nd (ex-aequo) in PunyJam#3, in March 2023.

This is the Release 3.2, post-comp polished version.

Written by Marco Innocenti - Tested by Andrew Schultz, Gianluca Girelli and Garry Francis. Rovarsson was also pretty helpful in finding missing verbs and interactions. It uses the PunyInform libraries by Johan Berntsson and Fredrik Ramsberg, and of course Inform6 by Graham Nelson (and a lot of other people). The C64 version has been compiled with Ozmoo by Johan Berntsson and Fredrik Ramsberg. All the other thirty-something versions are courtesy of Stefan Vogt and his incredible Puddle BuildTools.

Hi Marco. I found this game through the TI-99 community, but it looks like there is no TI-99 version in the download anymore. Was there a problem with that version?

Hi! Unfortunately, the latest release is no more compatible with the TI-99 due to the file being too big.
release 3.1, though, which is essentially the same, still has it.

Release 3.1 is now available for download!

try the new downloadable file. It should contain the TI-99 version too

Sorry for the inconvenience

Works great! Thank you, and Happy New Year!

Hi - I can't get this to run in C64 Forever.  I have tried the c64 and c128 versions and I get this

Actually scrap that - it runs fine if I don't convert it to the RP9 format that C64 Forever seems to want you to use.

Nice! Let me know how did you like the game!

Is it possible to run these in an emulator such as Spectaculator, please? I tried both this and the other new game, but when I run the disk, if I type anything at the A> prompt, it just acts like I've pressed enter multiple times. And I've set the emulator to a +3 machine. Thanks.

hi!

I don’t know of that emulator, but I bet they all work the same. So try and follow the steps in the read me file (that I’m posting hereafter). Be sure to use the CPM files included or the ones you normally use.

Spectrum +3:

Insert the Spectrum CPM Plus disk and then use the machine's LOADER feature.

Once CPM Plus has finished loading, insert the game disk

Now type PLAY GAME

You have to press a key to dismiss the intro screen

Unfortunately, that didn't work. Which emulators do they work in?

I'm testing it on Fuse for Mac. I know that Stefan Vogt (the man behind the Build Tools used to compile the game) launches it on Linux.

Are you sure you are doing it in the exact sequence? Open the emulator in +3 mode, insert the CPM disk (provided with the game bundle), use the LOADER, then when CPM is loaded you swap the disc with the A1RL0CK game disc and type PLAY GAME?

I tried it now (one never knows...) and it works perfectly.

I've checked the App you are using, and it's probably its limitation. I don't see an iOs app loading CPM... Something similar is probably included. The game is released for desktop only (and it works on original hardware, too!)

Oha, started as survival and then went wild! As said, that was a dive into my childhood (ZX 81 anyone?). I love reading and I love figuring out what meaning lies behind the words. Keeping maps and directions in my head and keeping track of loose ends.
Found out about your games after a recommendation from Stefan Vogt. You both got me back to good ol' text adventures, thank you!

well I sure hope you had fun! This game has a sequel, with a completely different main character. Check it out!

Is this supposed to be a text based adventure game? Lol

Is it not?
